I did not grow up going to church. I knew who Jesus was, but that wa about it. In middle school some older friends invited me to a Bible Study in which I heard the plan of salvation for the first time ever. I so didn't get it, but I prayed the prayer that the leader led at the end. Not long after my mom decided that we should be in church. As a middle schooler who had never been in church, this was not an idea that I was excited about. We visited some and she really liked a church that I didn't. We joined that church. Little did I know what an impact that student ministry would have in my life. In high school I began to question if I truly understood the decision I had made before and did the old "making sure" prayer thing and was re-baptized. I don't know which "counted" or that it even matters.
My student ministry was an excellent place where I had opportunities to connect with God, grow with believers, serve in the church, and live on mission (though we didn't use those words). It provided an excellent foundation for my faith.
The summer after my freshman year in college I served as an intern in the children's ministry at that same church. During that summer God called me into children's ministry.
